Weekly Digital Marketing Roundup

June 28, 2017 - By Aaron Hockel

Here are the biggest announcements, product updates, and news stories impacting the digital marketing industry last week:

YouTube Announces Multiple Product Updates

YouTube announced a number of product updates last week, including a new way for their 1.5 billion monthly users to share videos. Similar to Instagram's feature that lets users share posts in message style conversations, YouTube has created a nearly identical feature for sharing videos, demonstrated in the video below. Other important updates included additional markets for YouTube TV, new YouTube Red Originals content, and new layouts for YouTube's desktop and mobile platforms.

Google Posts Rolled Out Globally

After moving Google Posts to Google My Business a few weeks ago, Google officially announced last week that the feature was open to all users. The roll out comes after months of a limited test of the platform that previously required businesses to apply for consideration. Here's an example of how Google Posts appear in search results:     Google Posts Example

Facebook Announces Video Creator App

Announced last week at VidCon, Facebook will launch an app later this year specifically designed for creating video and live broadcast content. Features will include the ability to add intro's and outro's to live broadcasts, stickers that users can interact with during broadcasts, and a chat feature to engage users across Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger. Instagram Creating Lists Feature

To combat the rise in second and third accounts, Instagram is developing a tool to share posts privately with lists. With many users not wanting to share every post with every follower, Instagram has seen a rise in "finsta" (fake Instagram) accounts where users post more personal content to select groups of followers. The new feature will allow users to post content to specific lists and users seeing the posts will know it is a private post due to a green "Favorites" note.
